a true Yankee fan
Being a Yankee fan: True…to you it might be just a game, but to a TRUE Yankee fan, its more than just that. It’s the feeling you get at the end of a great game, when they’ve pushed themselves to the limits, the way the bat sounds when you know the balls going out of the park, the first game back after a long trip on the road. It’s a part of your identity, something you love, and something you hate. It’s listening to John Sterling screaming the world famous “And the Yankees win…THE-E-E-E-E-E YANKEES WIN” It’s smiling when they do great, yelling at the umpires that “ARE YOU CRAZY?! WILLIAMS WAS SAFE BY A MILE” even when you knew he was out. It’s screaming at the stupid fans on the other team through the TV, yelling at the Red Sox, letting them know, it doesn’t matter if they broke the curse of the Bambino…they’re not winning again until 2090, totally forgetting the fact that they can’t really hear you. It’s crying when they lose, and screaming when they win. Willing the ball to fall into Matsui’s glove, or willing it to missthe outfielder’s on the other team and drop for a triple. It’s willing them to get that one last out, and laughing uncontrollably when the other team looks dumb. It’s almost crying with happiness as you watch them celebrate yet another World Series victory. It’s something you just can’t understand unless your a fan, but that’s ok, because everytime you settle in to watch them play, it’s all the excitement, the wondering if this is gonna be the game where Mussina gets his perfect game, Mariano gets another save, or Jeter gets his first grand slam. So to you it just may be a game, but to a true Yankee fan…IT’S LIFE.
